Answer -- Yes, you
can use almost any brand of SVN with the Medicator. The
nebulizer inlet fitting is a standard size compatible with practically
every SVN available, however, some nebulizers with soft
polypropylene tapered connectors may not fit very well. You
can even attach a continuous nebulizer to the Medicator
manifold in order to enhance its aerosol delivery. See
the next FAQ.
As for what
nebulizer we recommend -- we recommend our own #Neb-3A
ExpressNeb™. The
ExpressNeb™ has a rated efficiency of ~50% (50% of
nebulizer charge is completely nebulized). The particle
size is characterized by an MMAD of 1.0 µm with a distribution as follows: 2% <0.2 µM, 62% between
0.2 and 1.0 µM, and 35% between 1.0 and 5.0 µM.
Therefore, this nebulizer is generally recommended for
bronchodilator administration and upper airway therapy. We
provide the Express Neb on all orders for Cat. # MM-8xx and
AM-6xx. We
also have a "fine particle" nebulizer (#Neb-3A+)
with a rated efficiency
of ~35 - 50%. The particle size is characterized
by an MMAD of about 0.5 µm with a distribution as
follows: 7% <0.2 µM, 90% between 0.2 and 1.0 µM, and 3%
between 1.0 and 5.0 µM. This nebulizer is used on our
nuclear medicine devices for deposition lung imaging and can
be used in pediatrics and/or for
administration of aerosolized antimicrobials and other drugs
with a targeted deposition at the endobronchial level.
Although you
could use anyone's SVN, we're not certain why you'd want
to. Our two nebulizers are top-of-the-line and were
originally designed to meet the exacting standards for
radioaerosol lung imaging. You can read their history
if you're interested. |
