Healthline Medical, Inc. will award one
respiratory therapist, who is an active member of the AARC,
with a research grant consisting of a one week, expense-paid trip to Healthline's corporate
offices and aerosol research laboratory in Los Angeles for the
purpose of conducting an aerosol research project.
Eligibility. To
be eligible, candidates must meet the following requirements:
1. Be at least 21 years
old (18 if a legal resident of the State of California) and
live within the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.
2. Be an active member of the AARC.
3. Be employed under medical direction in the
respiratory therapy field. The candidate may be a
practitioner, educator or manager and may be employed in a
hospital, educational program or home care setting.
4. Submit a proposal to Healthline describing an aerosol
research project that they would like to conduct using
Healthline's facilities.
5. Agree to submit the results of the research project
to the AARC's 2004 Open Forum as an abstract.
6. Agree to present the abstract as a poster at the AARC's
2004 Open Forum if accepted.
7. Agree to submit a manuscript to RC Journal if the
research is presented at the Open Forum.
8. Be able to travel to or within California for a period of
up to one
week (Sunday through Saturday) during either January, February
or March 2004.
9. Agree to sign a standard model release to allow
photographs and/or audio recordings and/or video recordings of
self or likeness to be made and used by Healthline Aerosol
Medicine in its advertising and marketing activities without
compensation or limitations.
10. Agree to hold Healthline Medical, Inc., and its
operating divisions, Healthline Aerosol Medicine and Medi/Nuclear,
harmless in case of accident, injury or death involved in
travel to or from Healthline Medical facilities or during on
site activities.
Application.
Additional details and the
application form may be obtained downloaded
in MS-Word format.
Deadline.
The deadline for receipt of applications is January 2, 2004.
Timetable. After
the close of receipt of applications on January 2, 2004, a
decision will be reached, and the successful candidate will be
notified by January 16, 2004. A "runner-up"
candidate will also be selected and notified as a contingency
in case the primary awardee is unable to fulfill the
requirements.
Criteria. All
applications will be judged by Healthline Aerosol Medicine on
their applicability to the field of respiratory therapy and
aerosol drug delivery. The project must involve
"bench testing" and may not involve animal research
or delivery of
actual drugs or radiolabeled aerosols to any human subjects,
including the investigator (although humans may generate
breathing patterns so long as aerosols that would have been
inhaled are captured on HEPA filters at the airway opening). The proposed project must
seek to answer a relevant clinical question that can be
illuminated by bench testing or simulation with radiolabeled
aerosols. To the greatest extent possible, the project
should be conducted with equipment already present or
available to Healthline Aerosol Medicine. Requirements
for special equipment will be considered on an individual
basis and, if approved, will be the responsibility of the
awardee to acquire and transport. The decision of
Healthline Medical is final.
Healthline Medical reserves
the right to cancel this offering at any time and/or to modify
the eligibility requirements and timetable.
